Measuring Your Media Profile
Language: en
Pages: 235
Authors: Dermot H. McKeone
Categories: Social Science
Type: BOOK - Published: 1995 - Publisher: Gower Publishing, Ltd.

Dermot McKeone's book shows how, with the aid of today's powerful technology, the impact an organization makes in the media can be monitored and evaluated - against the competition if necessary. Using examples and case studies of high profile companies, he describes the various methods available for analysing media coverage (both printed and broadcast) and discusses the costs and benefits involved. He explains how to identify target audiences and choose appropriate messages, demonstrating how media coverage translates into corporate image in the marketplace. Analysing and evaluating media coverage, argues Mr McKeone, should be part of a systematic corporate communications programme, and it is this strategic perspective that makes his book so valuable.
Students: A Gendered History

Authors: Carol Dyhouse

Type: BOOK - Published: 2006-03-20 - Publisher: Routledge

This compelling and stimulating book explores the gendered social history of students in modern Britain. From the privileged youth of Brideshead Revisited, to the scruffs at 'Scumbag University' in The Young Ones, representations of the university undergraduate have been decidedly male. But since the 1970s the proportion of women students in universities in the UK has continued to rise so that female undergraduates now outnumber their male counterparts. Drawing upon wide-ranging original research including documentary and archival sources, newsfilm, press coverage of student life and life histories of men and women who graduated before the Second World War, this text provides rich insights into changes in student identity and experience over the past century. The book examines : men's and women's differing expectations of higher education the sacrifices that families made to send young people to college the effect of equality legislation demography changing patterns of marriage and the impact of the 'sexual revolution' on female students the cultural life of students and the role that gender has played in shaping them. For students of gender studies, cultural studies and history, this book will have meaningful impact on their degree course studies.

Morality and Citizenship in English Schools
Language: en
Pages: 251
Authors: Susannah Wright
Categories: History
Type: BOOK - Published: 2016-12-08 - Publisher: Springer

This book sheds new light on early twentieth-century secularism by examining campaigns to challenge dominant Christian approaches to the teaching of morality and citizenship in English schools, and to offer superior alternatives. It brings together, for the first time, the activities of different educators and pressure groups, operating locally, nationally and internationally, over a period of 47 years. Who were these activists? What ideological and organisational resources did they draw on? What proposals did they make? And how did others respond to their views? Secularist activists represented a minority, but offered a recurrent challenge to majority views and shaped ongoing educational debates. They achieved some, albeit limited, influence on policy and practice. They were divided among themselves and by 1944 had failed to supplant majority views. But, with the place of religious and secular ideals in schools remaining a subject of debate, this analysis has resonance today.
